What is Botulinum Toxin Therapies?

This treatment has been administered to reduce muscle spasm for disorders, neurological disorders, and movement disorders.

Botulinum toxin therapy has been administered to treat neurological disorders, including:

  • Blinking or twitching within the muscles on one side of the face
  • Dystonias
  • Spasticity from strokes, multiple sclerosis, brain injuries
  • Pathologically abnormal sweating, and drooling
  • Headache and other painful conditions

Botulinum toxin therapy is intended to reduce muscle spasm and pain and provide improved functioning. A small amount of botulinum toxin can be injected into a muscle to block messages from the nerves to the muscles, in turn, reducing spasms.

It is important to note that before scheduling an appointment to receive Botulinum toxin therapy, you will need to verify that your insurance is accepted by our specialty pharmacy. After preauthorization is established, the pharmacy can then ship the medication to our Brain and Spine office where it is properly stored until your appointment.
